Do I need prior experience to train with Urban Tactics?
No. We welcome everyone — from complete beginners to experienced professionals. We meet you where you are.
Who typically takes your classes?
We train civilians, law enforcement, first responders, corrections officers, individuals with disabilities, and victims of violence. Our community is diverse, and our training reflects that.
What should I bring to my first class?
You'll get a checklist after registering. Usually it includes ID, proper attire, eye/ear protection, and any course-specific items listed ahead of time.
Do I need to own a firearm to take a class?
Not always. Some of our courses include rental options. Just ask if you're unsure.
How long are your classes?
All core courses, including our concealed carry class, meet or exceed Michigan’s state-required 8-hour minimum for certification.
Can I bring a guest to the range?
Yes, students are generally allowed to bring guests to the range. However, there may be limitations on the number of guests and specific rules regarding guest access.
Can I bring my own ammunition to the range?
Yes, students are generally encouraged to bring their own ammunition for use in the ranges. However, there may be restrictions on certain types of ammunition or calibers. Please check with our range staff for any specific guidelines. If you do not have ammunition, we do provide for ammunition for you to use for a fee.
I’ve experienced violence, is this a safe space to learn?
Yes. Urban Tactics was founded by survivors, for survivors. We understand trauma and teach in a way that empowers, not intimidates.
